The fans in Pilsen had many opportunities in past to see Slovak ball hockey. The national teams from juniors to men and veterans have been to Pilsen several times as well as first teams of Ruzinov or Nitra. Now it is HbK HOKEJMARKET Skalica, who accepted the offer to play at Pilsen Challenge 2015.

“We would like to present ourselves with an offensive style. Our roster is built on young players (mostly 23 to 25 years old) and some of the more experienced guys,” Jozef Vadik – head coach – says about Skalica. However he refuses to reveal any player who could be a threat for the opposition. “Who’s our biggest star? It can’t be said just like that. Watch the whole team,” he says mysteriously. Anyway, the presence of 4 internationals (Milan Rampacek, Jaroslav Martinusik, Milan Sobol and Radoslav Zelenka) can be a hint for the fans.

Skalica is third team of the Slovak Extraliga at the moment, which more or less pleases Vadik, because the ambitions of his team are the highest possible and it’s well known, that the decisive games are yet to be played. “We practice twice or three times per week. So far, it has been pretty much about the strength and explosiveness. We will test our in-game condition in Pilsen. These will be our first games since the end of autumn part [of the season],” Vadik reveals his plans. However, he regrets his team won’t be complete. “Unfortunately, some of the players can’t go with us. Despite that, we want to play as good as we can. We will bring 20 players and 3 goalies,” he said.

So, what are the ambitions of Skalica? “We’re looking forward to meet opponents from different countries with different game styles. It’s difficult to set a goal, when we’re not quite familiar with quality of the other teams. For us the most important will be to prepare well for the rest of the season,” Vadik wishes.

It should be said, there are no doubts about quality of Skalica. For instance, its players reached silver medals in 2014 World Cup, where they lost to Kladno (Czech champion) in the final game.
